Our First Market Day – How Malohana Became Visible in Potsdam

Our first market day in Potsdam – a special moment for Malohana

Some days stay in your heart.

Our first market day at Nauener Tor in Potsdam was exactly such a day for us. After many weeks of planning, pouring, labeling, packaging, and preparing, we were finally out with Malohana for the first time. Not just online, not just at home in our small candle manufactory, but right in the heart of Potsdam – with our hand-poured scented candles, wax melts, and diffusers.

For us, it was a very special moment.

Between excitement and anticipation

Before the market, there was a lot of excitement. Especially the question of how people would react to our scents was constantly on our minds.

Would they stop?
Would they like our products?
Would we have good conversations?
Would the weather cooperate?

It was that typical merry-go-round of thoughts that arises when something truly matters to you.

On the morning itself, the excitement slowly turned into a good feeling. We set up our stall, placed the wax melts and candles, added the diffusers, and arranged everything to feel like Malohana: warm, calm, loving, and inviting.

When everything was ready, we stood in front of our little stall and thought:

This is really Malohana now.

Our passion project, visible to other people.

The first real contact with our customers

The best part of the day was the encounters.

For the first time, people could smell our scents directly. They could pick up the candles, discover the wax melts, and calmly browse through our little world of fragrances.

And it was precisely these honest reactions that were incredibly valuable to us.

When someone smelled a fragrance and said:
"Oh, I really like this one."
or
"Those are such nice names."
then for us, it was more than just a nice compliment.

It was the feeling that what we created with so much love resonates with other people.

Especially lovely for us was the first couple who bought from us. They were already familiar with wax melts, were very interested, took their time, and engaged with our products.

When they finally took something home, it was a very special moment.

Not simply because we sold something. But because someone said: I like this. I want to take this home.

That's exactly why we do Malohana.

Scents that touch people

What particularly pleased us was that there wasn't one scent that worked for everyone equally. Everyone had their own favorite.

Some liked Mondstille (Moon Silence).
Others found Wüstenwärme (Desert Warmth) particularly beautiful.
Sommerfrische (Summer Freshness) and Inselsonne (Island Sun) were also very well received.

And that's exactly what we love about scents.

They are personal. They evoke memories, create moods, and accompany small moments in everyday life. For one person, a scent is calm and soft; for another, it's fresh and vibrant. Everyone finds their own scent moment in their own way.

At the market, we were able to experience this directly for the first time.

A day full of smiles, conversations, and gratitude

We were told that there were slightly fewer people that day than on other market days. But for us, that wasn't bad at all. The weather was pleasant, the atmosphere relaxed, and there were always nice conversations.

Some people bought something directly. Others took a business card and wanted to check out our online shop later. Still others simply sniffed, asked questions, and showed interest.

That was valuable too.

Because this first market day was not just a sales day for us. It was a step outside. A moment in which we could personally showcase Malohana.

We realized how wonderful it is to talk to people about our scents, explain our concept, and tell them why we do all of this.

Initial uncertainty turned into joy.
Excitement turned into conversations.
Our small passion project became a stall where people stopped, smiled, and took something home.

What we take away

Our first market day encouraged us.

We learned to invite people even more openly to simply browse through the scents. Without any pressure, at their leisure. Because that's what Malohana is all about: not about quick buying, but about small scent moments that suit you.

We already have new ideas for the next markets. For example, we'd like to bring our small accessories and see which diffusers are particularly interesting for you.

But above all, we take one thing away:

Gratitude.

For every conversation.
For every smile.
For every honest feedback.
For every person who stopped.
And for the feeling that Malohana became visible in Potsdam for the first time that day.

Thank you to everyone who made our first market day special.

We look forward to everything that is yet to come.
